Essential Information

Hello! My name is Lorraine Berry and I have been teaching at Fort Vancouver High School since the Fall of 1998.  I started with the district in the Fall of 1997 at Skyview High School its opening year.

I tend to be at school from 7:00 am until 2:35. If your student would like to obtain additional assistance, he or she need merely to ask if I am available on a particular  afternoon.  Wednesdays are reserved for staff meetings after school.

Our phone number here at Fort Vancouver High School is:
313-4000.

The school closure information (snow days, etc) number is 313-1401.

My e-mail address is Lorraine.Berry@vansd.org. You will get a better response from me by email than by phone.

Thank you for being involved in your student's education!

Lesson Plans Each Chapter

Note taking is one of the most important things students do.  When they have practice problems to do, they should copy the problem, any diagrams, tables or associated pictures, and show all of their work.  Answers only do not help a student to find similarly worded problems.  When I show the answers and how to do the assigned problems, students should make note of any errors so as to have clean, good examples for the assessments.

Absent? What should you do when you come back?
This is a set of directions for students to follow when they are absent. It is very important that the student turn in any work that was due on the day he or she returns or it will not be accepted as it is then late.

Students can only make up work that they missed if they get an excused admit from the attendance office and bring it to me in person (see student handbook). I will tell the student when this absent work is due for him or her when I assign the work.

Stiggins Grading Method
To prevent missing assignments from being so devestating to a student's grade, Mrs. Berry will use Stiggins as a guide for daily work, homework, participation grades, journaling, etc.

Stiggins is like HSPE (WASL) scoring - the student can earn a 0, 1, 2, 3, or 4.

Assessments will be recorded by the percentage earned out of 100. Thus, the majority of the student's grade will be determined by the assessments.

Announcement to All of Mrs. Berry's Students

As I cannot seem to save videos to this website, I have started a subscription on TeacherTube and YouTube under the name MrsBinomial.  I have posted several videos on the math skills we are doing in the SIMMS books.  I hope you find them helpful.

Mrs. Berry requires students to read and take notes on each Module of the SIMMS textbook.  Students should include all key vocabulary terms in their notes along with definitions and pictorial representations when appropriate. All rules, properties, theorems, etc. also need to be included in the student's notes with pictorial representations when appropriate.  Mrs. Berry will try to model C-Notes in the classroom as often as possible to align with our AVID program.

Questions and main ideas will be discussed in class prior to the new assignment.  This is when students should add additional definitions, examples, and pictorial representations for these terms and key ideas.

Students will be allowed to make some notes for all scheduled assessments in Pre-AP Geometry and Geometry. Students need to be taking these notes to help themselves study, practice the exercises and alleviate test anxiety. These will be explained in greater detail in class.

Students will be given an agenda or access to the agenda online for each Module as soon as I get them prepared.

(Pre-AP) Geometry Periods 3, 4, 5, 6
This is where students and parents/guardians will be able to find information and materials specific to my Geometry classes. Pre-AP information will be posted here as well.
