  • Portland State University: 8:00 a.m on Dec. 7, 2009

 

WSU-VANCOUVER CAMPUS TOURS :. Prospective WSU-Vancouver students are invited to register for a guided tour of the campus in Salmon Creek, a few miles northeast of the confluence of I-5 and I-205 freeways. Student ambassadors will conduct the tours and answer questions about the school and its academic programs, students activities and services. Tours will be conducted Mondays at 4:00 p.m., Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m., Wednesdays at 3:00 p.m., Thursdays at 4:00 p.m., and Fridays at 1:00 p.m. To register for a tour, call (360) 546-9527.  Curious about what it's like to be a student at WSU Vancouver? TOUR CLARK COLLEGE CAMPUS:. Prospective Clark College students and their families are invited to arrange for a tour of the campus, guided by a "student ambassador." To register for a campus tour, go to www.clark.edu/visit or call (360) 992-2961. Tours last about one hour.

JOB CORPS ORIENTATION SESSIONS:. Each Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. at the Job Corps office in the Vancouver Worksource headquarters at Town Plaza, 5411 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. Job Corps is a federal program that provides free career and academic training to students whose income meets guidelines. Qualifying students ages 16-24 may earn a GED or high school diploma and train for any of a number of high-demand careers. For more information, go to www.sanfranciscoregion.jobcorps.gov.   • PREVIEW DAY AT WSU VANCOUVER FOR PROSPECTIVE APPLICANTS AND THEIR FAMILIES:   Wednesday, Nov. 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Administration Building, room 110.  This is an opportunity to learn about the WSU Vancouver admissions process, talk with current students, take a campus tour, learn about financial aid and scholarships, and explore academic programs and student activities.   • EXTRA -FEE LATE REGISTRATION DEADLINE TO SIGN UP FOR THE ACT ON DEC. 12, 2009: Nov. 20, 2009.  2009-2010 seniors who plan to apply to any four-year colleges or universities need to take the ACT, SAT or both.  Hudson's Bay's code is 481-475.  To register for ACT, go to actstudent.org. 

  • GEORGE FOX UNIVERSITY INFORMATION SESSION "COFFEE NIGHT": Nov. 23, 2009, 4:30 p.m. at Brewed Awakenings coffee shop, 16318 SE 12th St., Bldg. B, Vancouver, WA.  For potential George Fox applicants and their families.

  • JUNIORS & SENIORS - - REGISTER NOW TO TAKE THE RUNNING START QUALIFYING TEST FOR THE FIRST TIME:  Now but no later than Dec. 4, 2009, Juniors and seniors who have never taken the COMPASS qualifying exam at Clark College, to see if they may participate in the Running Start program, may go to the Clark website (www.clark/runningstart) and register for a date/time to go to Gaiser Hall to take the exam. For assistance, stop by the HBHS Career Center.  Students who score at the required levels during this testing period may begin taking classes at Clark College at the start of Clark's spring quarter.  Questions?   • GRADUATION INFO NIGHT FOR HUDSON'S BAY SENIORS: Dec. 1, 2009, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Commons. An opportunity for seniors to order caps/gowns, graduation announcements, class rings, etc.  Also, admissions representatives from several local colleges and universities will be there to provide information about their schools.

  • FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION SESSION: Dec. 2, 2009, 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Clark College in the Student Center in Gaiser Hall. Helpful session for high school seniors and parents/guardians to learn how to apply for federal financial aid to help pay for the student's first year at any accredited college or university. Students do NOT have to plan to apply to Clark College to be welcome to attend this valuable session. For more information, call the Financial Aid Office at Clark College at (360) 992-2153.

  • INFORMATION SESSION ABOUT APPRENTICESHIPS IN SCIENCE & ENGINEERING SUMMER PROGRAM: Dec. 7, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. in the Library Media Room at Union High School. An opportunity for students currently in grades 9-11 to learn about how they can apply to participate in an 8-week internship during the summer of 2010 at a business or organization that focuses on chemistry, biomedicine, engineering, biology, computer science, physics, earth sciences, web design and other related topics.   • SENIORS - - APPLY FOR FEDERAL FINANCIAL AID:  As soon as possible AFTER Dec. 31, 2009, seniors who plan to attend any type of community college, technical college or university during school year 2010-2011 should file a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). This is the only way a student will find out if the federal government will offer a student any type of grant or loan to help pay for post-high school education/training. Guides explaining the on-line FAFSA application process will be available in the Hudson's Bay Career Center in early December. Students and parents may apply on-line, starting Jan. 1, 2010, at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

  • "SCHOLARSHIPS 101":  Jan. 6, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at Washington State University Vancouver.  Helpful session for all high school seniors and their parents/guardians to learn how to find and apply for scholarships to help pay for their first year of attendance at any type of accredited college or university.   • SCHOLARSHIPS INFORMATION SESSION: Jan. 26, 2010, 7:00-9:00 p.m. to get coaching about how to apply for a scholarship from Clark College. All high school seniors who plan to apply to Clark College and their parents welcome. Clark College plans to award more than $400,000 in scholarships to its own students for school year 2010-2011. To be considered for some it, students must apply. Students are eligible if their cumulative high school GPA is at least 2.5. Free session. For more information, call (360) 992-2153.

    FIELD TRIP FOR SOPHOMORES AND JUNIORS WHO WANT TO VISIT CLARK COUNTY SKILLS CENTER: Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010. Students in grades 10 and 11 who are considering applying to attend the Clark County Skills Center during 2010-2011 to be in any of the 15 career-preparation programs it offers may ride a school bus to the Skills Center. Only students who submit a parent-signed field trip permission form by Feb. 16 will be allowed to go on this visitation.   • PROFESSIONAL-TECHNICAL PROGRAMS VISIT DAY AT CLARK COLLEGE: Tuesday, Feb. 23, 2010. High school juniors and seniors may sign up at the HBHS Career Center to spend the morning at Clark College to visit Professional-Technical career-training programs of interest to them. Deadline to sign up: Feb. 19.   • PACIFIC NORTHWEST COLLEGES INFORMATION FAIR: Sunday, March 7, 2010, noon-3:00 p.m. at Chiles Center at the University of Portland, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., Portland. An opportunity to meet with admissions representatives from most of the four-year colleges and universities in the Pacific Northwest. Free.     HIGH SCHOOL HEALTH SCIENCES CAMP AT EAST WEST COLLEGE: Saturday, March 27, 2010, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. at the college, 525 NE Oregon, Portland, OR 97232. Free of charge, participate in a series of activities designed to help you learn about the "healing arts" including massage, acupressure, yoga, etc. The activities are titled "Muscle Build-Out," "Name That Bone," "Life Movement," "Action Puzzle," "Yoga and You," and  "Massage Modality Mini-Lecture."  Lunch and an afternoon pizza snack provided!     U.S. citizens or legal residents ages 16-24 whose income meets Job Corps guidelines may apply to enter this federally funded program. While enrolled, young people may earn their GED or high school diploma and train, for free, for any one of a number of in-demand careers.
