Running Start is one of many choices for high school students. The program gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to take courses at Clark College as part of their high school program. Credits earned in 100- and 200-level courses count toward both high school graduation and college degree programs.
Students must apply and pass an entrance test for Running Start. There are several things to consider in your decision to take classes through the Running Start program.
• Grades and credit for Running Start classes will become part of a permanent college transcript which includes a college grade point average (GPA).
• Grades received at Clark College in Running Start classes will be used in computing the student’s high school GPA. Grades issued by Clark College cannot be changed by high school administration.
• Washington public four-year colleges and universities recognize Running Start credits, however, some private and out-of-state colleges do not. All Running Start students should check with the college or university they plan to attend to be sure their credits will transfer.
• High school administrators will not issue attendance, progress, or grade reports for Running Start classes. The college communicates with students, not parents, regarding Running Start classes.
