The list of national board certified teachers in Vancouver Public Schools continues to grow. Thirteen teachers have been notified that they achieved national certification for 2009, bringing the total to 38. More teachers are in the process with notifications pending.

Certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) is the highest ranking for K-12 teachers. Teachers go through a rigorous application process that includes cataloging and videotaping their teaching experiences, creating portfolios, and passing tests.

“These teachers are stars. They have demonstrated the highest levels of competence,” said Superintendent Steve Webb. “I truly believe that teaching is the most important profession. Our students are fortunate to be able to learn from the best.”
