Registration 2010-2011
Kindergarten registration for the 2010-11 school year will take place in district elementary schools beginning Tuesday, April 6, 2010, except for the schools offering language programs. Registration at Sarah J. Anderson (Dual Language Program), Franklin Elementary School (Chinese Immersion Program), and Harney (Spanish Immersion Program) begins March 2. School offices will be open for registration from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on school days.
Children must be five years of age by August 31, 2010, to register for the 2010-11 kindergarten school year. You may register your child at your local school. At the time of registration, please present proof of your child’s birth date (birth certificate or signed hospital certificate) and immunization records. If you do not have such documentation, each elementary school secretary has information about how to obtain it. Registered students and their parents will be invited to the kindergarten visitation for their school.
To find out which school your child will attend, use the boundary map, or call the office of elementary education at 313-1010, or the Communications Office at 313-1230.
Two elementary schools offer Spanish language programs. The Spanish/English Dual Language Program is located at Sarah J. Anderson Elementary School. A Spanish Immersion Program is offered at Harney Elementary School. A Chinese Immersion Program began in 2010 with a kindergarten class at Franklin Elementary School. Students from throughout Vancouver School District may apply for admission into these programs.
Six schools—Fruit Valley, Harney, King, Peter S. Ogden, Roosevelt, and Washington—operate full-day kindergarten from 8:30 a.m. to 2:50 p.m. Kindergarten students who live within the boundaries of those schools will automatically be eligible for the full-day program. Families outside of the boundaries may request a boundary exception to enroll their child on a space-available basis.
Four schools, Chinook, Felida, Franklin, and Lake Shore, will offer tuition-based, full-day kindergarten. The full-day kindergarten program at Franklin is the Chinese Immersion Program. Please check with those schools about the availability of space in their programs.
All other district kindergartens operate half days. Morning kindergarten at 15 elementary schools runs from 8:30 to 11:10 a.m. Afternoon kindergarten at those schools operates from 12:10 to 2:50 p.m. Two schools—Lincoln and Minnehaha—run morning kindergarten from 9:10 to 11:50 a.m., and afternoon kindergarten from 12:50 to 3:30 p.m.
