Tuition-based, full-day kindergarten
Program curriculum
The tuition-based, full-day kindergarten program provides extended time to address literacy, math and other core content taught during the traditional 2 hour and 40 minute kindergarten day funded by the state of Washington. In addition, students in the tuition-based, full-day kindergarten program receive specialized instruction in art, music and movement.
Tuition
The full-day class serves a minimum of 18 students and a maximum of 24. The tuition for the program pays for the second half of the program (materials and half of the salary and benefits of a certificated teacher) not funded by the state. The tuition for the year is $2,900 and can be paid in two installments. Installment payments of $1,450 are due no later than Sept. 9, 2009, and Jan. 6, 2010. Tuition is non-refundable unless the program is canceled by the district, or in special circumstances.
Application process
Application forms for these programs will be available at the school offices and on the Vancouver Public School website. Applications must be submitted to the school you would like your child to attend no later than 3 p.m. on May 13, 2009, to be entered in the lottery drawing. (If there are more than 20 applicants, students will be selected through a lottery process.) Students residing within the school boundaries to which you are applying will be placed in the first lottery drawing. The second lottery drawing will be for families outside of the school boundary, but within the Vancouver Public Schools' boundaries. The third lottery will be for families outside of Vancouver Public School District. The lottery drawing will be held on May 13 at each of the three school sites at 4 p.m. All applicants will be notified of the lottery drawing outcome.
Parents of students outside of school boundaries who are selected for this program will be required to provide their own transportation to and from school.
