"Promoting Powerful Teaching and Learning in the Classroom"
Student learning and achievement are the primary goals of Vancouver Public Schools, and we believe powerful teaching and learning are the keys to this goal. The Curriculum and Instruction department supports educators by ensuring access to the best teaching practices, instructional materials, and professional development available.
The professionals who work in Curriculum and Instruction are dedicated to supporting teachers and staff in numerous ways. We research and help select textbooks and instructional materials; implement curriculum that is aligned with state standards; develop information systems that record, measure and assess student learning; act as a resource for current research and best practices and programs; and coordinate professional development. We consult with educators on district, state and federal requirements including the Washington Assessment of Student Learning, graduation requirements, and No Child Left Behind.
Educators in Vancouver Public Schools strive to personalize learning for all students in order to meet their individual needs. Whether students want advanced level academics, a specialized magnet program, or extra instruction in a particular subject, they can find it in Vancouver Public Schools.
