Many people, in addition to our staff, contribute to the success of students at Minnehaha Elementary School. Four Americorp volunteers with Washington Reading Corps (WRC) work with students individually and in small groups. The WRC supports literacy programs including a book exchange, the Breakfast Reading Club, and an after-school homework club. Students can also improve their reading skills with help from HOSTS volunteers.
Community volunteers mentor students through the Lunch Buddy program and Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Students have the opportunity to join the Boys and Girls Club for safe, structured activities after school. More than 100 volunteers help with a variety of activities such as tutoring, fundraisers, help in the classroom, and book fairs.
Our students are encouraged to be responsible decision makers and problem solvers. Students in grades 3–5 can be trained as Minnehaha Mediators to help solve minor disputes and misunderstandings. All of our students are recognized for positive character traits and outstanding behavior at Pride Assemblies.
