Washington Elementary School is a small, neighborhood school. All of our students live within walking distance, so a few years ago we organized the Walking School Bus, which incorporates parents and volunteers who meet students on four routes. The Walking School Bus helps ensure our students get to school safely and on time.
Also last year we started our Family Resource Center. The center assists families in accessing resources for social services, parenting support, and basic needs. Our partnerships with the community provide valuable support for our students and staff. Students from Clark College lead our popular after-school Math Club and help with our Homework Club. Adult lunch buddies mentor individual students each week during lunch.
All of our students benefit from the Reading First program. This federally funded program pays for a reading specialist and instructional materials. Our Iditarod program helps students who struggle in reading. We recognize student accomplishments in academics and citizenship at monthly Husky Assemblies.
Mission Statement: The purpose of Washington Elementary School is to create a safe, nurturing environment that maximizes the potential for academic, social, emotional, and physical development.
