The culture at Chinook Elementary School nurtures high academic and social achievement. We encourage strong community and family ties, and creating joy as an intentional activity. Monthly themes promote the qualities of respect, trust, safety, and other core values among students. Our school staff leads by example, modeling these qualities for the students. Chinook was nationally recognized for its climate of respect and learning.
Chinook is a creative place bustling with academics, music, dance, art, and physical activities. Our school is innovative. We were the first school to pilot a district-wide food recycling program and an elementary keyboard music program. We also were selected to be part of a commemorative art project marking the 200th anniversary of explorers Lewis and Clark. The “River of Choices” lies between our school and our neighbor, Alki Middle School. Our school also offers a tuition-based, full-day kindergarten option in addition to half-day kindergarten.
PTA supports opportunities to keep students learning and having fun after the school day ends. Read and Lead encourages students to read at home. YMCA offers after-school classes. Many evening activities bring parents and families into the school to spend time with their children and share in their learning.
Mission Statement: The mission of the Chinook Community is to promote an environment of achievement, cooperation, respect, compassion and accountability for all.
