Board members were active participants in the planning process

Along with hundreds of staff and community members, the Vancouver School Board has been involved extensively in the Design II strategic planning process. Last December, the board adopted Resolution 661 authorizing the superintendent, deputy superintendent, and staff to conduct a comprehensive strategic planning process with the explicit intent of creating the finest school system possible. Since then, Board President Mari Greves, newly appointed Board Member Mark Stoker, and former Board Member Dave Christel have served as members of the Futures Team, which has overseen the strategic planning tasks and timeline.

During the stakeholder engagement phase, board members were active listeners to the staff and community input. Board Members Ed Rankin, Edri Geiger, and Dale Rice participated along with Greves, Stoker, and Christel on the Goal Area Teams, which helped to write the components of the plan. Collectively, board members have spent countless hours in meetings and work sessions to ensure that the district’s “second generation” strategic plan (2008-2013) builds upon the successful accomplishments of the “first generation” strategic plan (1989-2007).

Board will be asked to adopt the strategic plan in January

The superintendent, deputy superintendent, and the Futures Team will present the Design II strategic plan to the school board and request adoption of the plan on January 14. Goal Area Team members and others who have contributed to the development of the strategic plan are encouraged to attend this meeting, which will be held at the Center for Educational Leadership from 4 to 6 p.m.
