Focus groups will ensure that all voices are heard

In April and May, seven focus groups will be convened to gather input from specific audiences and to give them a voice in the strategic planning process. Invited groups include current students, recent graduates, district employees, parents, parents of English Language Learners and Special Education students, community and business leaders, and representatives of early childhood and higher education.

“With the focus groups, we are intentionally extending personal invitations. We want to make sure we are providing enough breadth and depth of perspective,” said Deputy Superintendent Steve Webb.

The focus group discussions will revolve around these topics:
• What the district is doing well that should be continued in the future
• What the district is doing now that could be improved in the future
• What knowledge and skills will be required of future graduates
• How students should be served to prepare them for their future
• How the district should collaborate with parents, early childhood and higher education, businesses, and community organizations in the future

Dr. John Davis, a consultant and a former superintendent who is experienced in strategic planning and community engagement efforts, will lead the focus group activities. Trained district staff members will facilitate the discussions.
