STEM stats

Vancouver Public Schools is expanding opportunities for learning in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math)-related fields.  That’s because job opportunities in these areas are expanding rapidly, particularly here in Washington.

  • Washington ranks fourth in the nation in its number of high-tech companies but 46th in the number of STEM graduates from its universities.
  • Despite Washington’s nearly 10% unemployment rate, at least 12,000 job openings exist in STEM-related fields.
  • Washington is currently graduating only enough students with the credentials to fill 67% of the expected annual job openings in engineering, 56% in computer science, and 65% in the medical professions.
