Mr. Cast
Felida Home

Hello there! My name is Devin Cast and I am the PE Specialist at Felida Elementary. This is my 15th year as a Falcon and I love it here.

In 2003, I received my Master's In Teaching from Washington State University. I spent one year as a substitute teacher before landing my dream job here at Felida.

My wife, Alicia Cast, is the teacher/librarian at Chinook Elementary. We have 3 boys, Kamden & Kale (twins - age 11) and Sawyer (age 8). We are very busy!

Feel free to contact me at Devin.Cast@vansd.org or 313-1750.

SPRING MILEAGE CLUB

Students in K-5th grade can participate in the Spring Mileage Club starting in May. This progam will last for 3 weeks. On Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch recess, students who walk/run laps on the field can earn toe-tokens. For every lap a student walks/runs a parent volunteer will clip a heart punch on their mileage club card. After 12 laps, students receive a toe-token. These tokens can be tied on your shoe, put on a necklace, or chained to a backpack. Also, the class in each grade level that turns in the most completed club cards will get to TOSS water balloons at Mr. Cast during a warm June PE.

Why is physical education important?
The hope is that children will adopt regular physical activity as a part of their lifestyle. There are four main goals of modern physical education:
  • to improve physical fitness,
  • to shape positive attitudes towards physical activity,
  • to give children the skills they need to enjoy different physical activities,
  • and to help them understand the importance of regular exercise and the connection between physical health and general well-being.

Felida Elementary has been participating in Jump-Rope-for-Heart for a number of years. Last year we collected $24,000 as a school. Way to go Felida! This money helps the American Heart Association with research and medical treatments. As many of you know, Timber Joey, of the Portland Timbers came to our school last year to congratulate us on a job well done. Click on this link to find out more information about JR4H and the AHA.

Students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade participate in Fitness Tests. VPS uses the Presidents Challenge to assess students fitness levels. In 5th grade, children take part in the Fitness CBA. Click on this link to check out national fitness scores!
